Heresy Era Rhino WIP ; Battlefield-In-A-Box Revisited

Last weekend I prolapsed another spinal disc at the gym....which has lead to a week off work (and £1200 lost in overtime ARGH!) Despite the discomfort, I have managed to make some progress on the last Demios Pattern Rhino for the Death Guard.

Just the weathering, washes and powders to go and were done! Just as well, because there are a pair of Contemptors being picked up from Games Day next week!

In other news - I've revisited a second love I have for this hobby, Terrain! Some of you may remember the Battlefield In A Box project I did about a year ago (check it out here). Well I've been thinking about that project a lot recently, mainly because I'd like to do a second Battlefield, but also because I wanted to add a few more terrain pieces to the original project.

This first piece was inspired by the watchtower featured in this months White Dwarf:

Cities of Death panels make up the main structure while battlements from the Imperial Bastion were used for the top deck.

Plasticard was used for the base of the deck, and a hatch from the Leman Russ sprue was added for access.

 

There is enough room for about 15 men on the top of the watchtower which will make it a pretty important piece of terrain on the battlefield! I'm preparing a second piece at the moment which will be a minor sub station for the larger Pump Station - again inspired by the WD article. After that, I may well plan a whole new battlefield! Feel free to leave suggestions for that one!

Heresy Era Death Guard - Squad 3 Complete; New Legion Army List

Things have been quiet on the blog for the past few weeks. Ive been working every hour going at work to pay off the deposit for my new BMW, which doesn't leave much time for the hobby. That being said, I have managed to chip away at the final Death guard squad:

Just 1 more Rhino to paint and then i'll have to buy some more mins...! That being said, I've re-written my list which now only have 1 Rhino in it! Check it out below:

Decided to run with 2 larger 'blob' squads instead of smaller 10 man squads. This seems a little bit more in keeping with the Death Guard aesthetic. I added a Vet' squad as well to get access to some AP2 weaponry. I did put these guys in a Rhino and will use them to Outflank (Veteran tactics) I'll be grabbing a tonne of resin at UK Games Day this year to get this new list well and truly underway!

 

I don't usually go for the GW 'trinket accessories' that they throw out every now and then. However I did go for this:



They're the Vehicle Markers - for damage results, Hull Points, etc. Love the Servo Skulls, so I had to go for these! The Lasgun power pack case is also cool! Looking forward to using them in a game.

Heresy Era Death Guard: Rhino 2 Complete

Just a short post today - I managed to add the finishing touches to this guy last week. Painted in the same way as the first, with the exception of the green detailing, which takes the form of a chevron this time.

I have already begun to build the final squad of  Legionnaires and begun prepping the last Rhino as well. I am keen to see these units finished so I can move onto some Contemptors!! I really love the way this army is shaping up!

Heresy Era Death Guard Army List

I put this list together a little while ago. Its based mainly on the models I like! As I haven't played many games of 6th Ed', let alone a Legion Army List, its all the basis I have to go on right now!

In the Betrayal book it states that these lists are intended for use against other Legion Lists. I did however try to make a versatile list that would work in regular games of 40K. Didn't think there would be many Legion armies running around for me to play against!

Anyhooo, I would welcome any thoughts and comments regarding the list - I could use some pointers!

Heresy Era Death Guard - Squad 2

Its been quite a few weeks since I last posted. The usual excuses apply (Life, work, demanding girlfriend, etc) I have however been chipping away at another Death Guard Squad:

You may notice that I went with the lighter green for the shoulder pad shading this time. I much prefer this look.

I also took the opportunity to make 2 of them Sergeants, something I neglected to do with the first squad. Love these helmet crests!

 

I also decided to jazz up the bases a bit and break up  the solid grey. Rusted metal was what I settled on. Thought that this linked quite nicely to the Death Guard's future state of decay!

 

As the Girlfriend went to America for 3 weeks, I spent some of my surplus free time over the weekend on the second of three Rhinos:

 

Just the weathering to do now and it is complete. I used a thinner Seraphim Sepia for the wash this time which I much prefer. 

 

This is the Army as it stands now, standing at the feet of Praetorian!

Heresy Era Death Guard: Rhino Complete

This guy has been complete for a few days now but I've been to busy to post.

 

I used exactly the same colour scheme for the Rhino as I did the Legionaries. The wash was a little dark though so i think i'll water it down for the other vehicles.

 

I made good use of MIG weathering powders for the exhausts. A Winton oil paint wash of Burnt Umber was applied to the whole of the model as well, which blended the powders together nicely.

 

The green strip is Orkhide Shade - I just taped up the tank and used an airbrush to apply it. I sponged on some skull white to break it up a bit. 

 

A basic Badab Black wash and Mithril Silver drybrush for the bolters:

Same for the Dozer Blade and the tracks, but some weathering powders were also applied here as well:

My only disappointment is that the washes on the hull came out a bit to dark, and they don't match the armour of the Legionnaires. I'll make sure i'll get it right next time!

Heresy Era Death Guard: Squad 1 Complete!

The first of my Legion squads is complete. I have dreamed for a long time about making a Legion army, and its great to finally see it take form! This is one of three squads, the other two to be built.

 

 

In the test model post I was worried that the shoulder pads didn't really 'pop' when painted. To try and rectify this I gave the pads a pass with the airbrush with a lighter shade of green. The one on the right is the only model with this shade, the one on the left was rolled out through the rest of the squad. I preferred the more subtle look.

It really helps make the iconography stand out a bit more.

Now that the squad is done, my attentions turn to this beauty!
