JSA - Keisotsu Butai with Combi Rifle

I've been super excited about the whole JSA uprising, both the evolution of the Infinity story and sweet new models that come with it! Like a lot of people i'm sure, I jumped straight on the JSA train when the models became available, picking up the JSA army box and also the ITS Season 9 Tournament Pack for the alternative O-Youri model.

First thing was first though, i needed to get a test mini done. For this i picked up a Keisotsu Butai, one of three in the JA army box.

I'm really enjoying the black/white/red colour combo's of the box art, so i went straight in for that. The white was a chore, needing to be blended up slowly over several coats to make sure it was smooth. I was quite soft on the highlights for the (now affectionately named) 'Combat Joggers'! As they are cloth i didn't want the highlights to be to severe.

I really enjoyed painting this model and was able to smash this out in just a few hours!

The JSA themed bases are from Laser Army Scenery. They are MDF rather than resin or plastic so i was a bit apprehensive as i'd never tried MDF bases before. I was pleasantly surprised though - the detail was good and they were easy to paint. The thickness was also compressible to the resin bases i'd  been using for my Aleph and Corregidor!

McMurrogh Mercenary Dog Warrior

If you have been following my Facebook and Twitter feeds you've probably seen this guy get slowly painted up. It was time for some proper pictures of this guy though!

Since i started collecting and playing Nomads i'd heard a lot about McMurrough. He definitely seems to be a 'point and shoot' kind of model aimed at maximum disruption and destruction before he inevitably goes down! Certainly not a subtle weapon - i like the sound of it! I look forward to getting him on the table.

The kilt was a bit of a daunting challenge, but i was pretty set on tartan! It also had to be red to match the rest of my Corregidor force. A bit of planning and preparation ensured that i got close to what i was trying to achieve. When it was all said and done, i was very happy with my first attempt at tartan!

The sword is admittedly an area that will need more work in the future. I did just zap it with the airbrush and added a few quick highlights to get the model finished off quickly (due to exciting new models arriving on the doorstep. more on that next week!)

Warsenal Comanche Bunker Scout Platform

A quick splash of terrain for you today, something from my near-complete 'Endor Table' project for Infinity! This is the Scout Platform for the Bunker building which importantly enables its inclusion into the walkway system the Comanche terrain is known for.

The Scout Platform replaces the roof of the bunker, adding a level and enabling access to the interior of the bunker via the roof.

The Bunker can no be integrated in the walkway system!

I have Scout Platforms for the 2 pillbox's I already have built, so I'll be getting them painted up next!.

Star Wars Legion - Storm Trooper Test Model

I'm sure I'm not the only person super excited about the release of Star Wars Legion! After I had done a quick flick though the rules and found them very much to my liking I assembled my first few Storm Troopers and had a go at painting one. Here's how I did it.

I was of course going with the classic white trooper. Now anyone who's painted white will know that getting it smooth is a bit of a bitch, so building up the white steadily is key.

Firstly I undercoated the mini in Army Painters Uniform Grey (not pictured) Then I zenith highlighted with Vallejo Game Air Stonewall Grey.

Next I zenith highlighted with Vallejo Model Colour Off White.

Then lastly I zenith highlighted with Vallejo Game Air Dead White.

Then repeat! Its actually pretty quick to do so I can't see it taking to long to get these guys done.

Now the base colour is applied it's time to add the details. There's not may colours on a classic Storm Trooper thankfully! The gloves, weapon, and eye lenses were painted black. The black was then softly highlighted with some thinned grey to make it stand out a bit more.

I also wanted to add a bit of definition to the white armour, so I added some Army Painter Uniform Grey to the ridges and joins in the armour to give it more depth.

Finally I added some orange to the shoulder pad. Now as not all Storm Troopers are squad leaders, this is a stage just for this trooper. I started with some orange mixed with dark red, then blended up the colour to orange over several layers. To properly finish it off I added some pure white highlights to the edges of the armour.

I'm looking forward to getting the rest of the troopers done! I'm not sure which way to go with the bases yet.....I'm making an Endor table for Infinity so could conveniently go green, but I also really like the new Star Wars terrain coming out of TT Combat so may go dessert/Mos Isley!
