Krieg Engineers

Having completed the final 5 Engineers yesterday, i now have the full 10 man Engineers squad. I found that the 5 man squads were pretty ineffective in games, so i hope the 10 men will do better!

Attached to the squad is a Hades Breaching Drill. This enables the Engineers to deep strike into battle. The drill itself is basically a deep striking melta, making it very effective at taking out those pesky armour 14 vehicles lurking around the field! Once the drill has entered play, the engineers automatically arrive the following turn.

The drill is painted to a basic standard at the mo, so i just need to weather it and its complete.

Regiment Name and Colour Scheme

I've had a short think about the name for this new regiment, and eventually came up with.........

141st Elysian Drop Troop Regiment "Helljumpers"

Not quite the memorable name i was going for, but i ran out of ideas! Some of you may notice the inspiration taken from Halo in there!

I also put some thought into the colours for my regiment. From the start i wanted a desert camo scheme for the army. After trawling the net for ideas, i came accross an article about the Taros Campaign from IA3, where the Elysians made their first appearance. They showed a picture of the scheme used in that campaign, and i liked it instantly! Having never read IA3, the scheme was new to me, and fullfilled my criteria perfectly!

Below is a quick outline of the scheme (those of you who have read IA3 will already be fimiliar with it) I found this healpful Elysian sketch on Google Images!!

This of course will be subject to change and adaptation, so i'll need to do a test model first to see how it really looks.  Shading, washes and highlighting will be figured out as i go along, but for now this is the intended scheme.

With regard to armour, i was going to go for a very straight forward Desert Yellow basecoat with some rust coloured feathering over the hull. Minimal metalic detail will be added (as it'll spoil the camoflage needed in this desert theatre!). Again, im sure this'll change over time.

Right, better get ordering off Forgeworld, and get some test models knocked out!

Back to the Krieg!

Im now officially 'Nidded out right now! So i've decided to turn my attentions to other projects.

It occured to me recently that i havent even written a list for my Krieg army. For the last 2 years i've just been collecting with no clear purpose in mind! I quickly knocked out a 1750pts army (for which i had most of the units!) and only needed 3 more units to make it complete. On that list was two 5 man Grenadier Squads with Meltas and a Centaur, and a 10 man squad of Engineers (which i have 5 of  already).

On the table now, 5 Engineers. These boys should be complete by the end of tommorrow. Then it'll be onto the Genadiers (once i've taken out a massive loan to pay for them!)

Also recently completed was a Death Korps Vanquisher. This guy is going to be the Company Command Tank for my Armoured Regiment. I rushed this guy out for an Apocalypse game, and had been sitting on my shelves for about a month before that! The Armoured Regiment is a project thats been slowly cooking for a long time now, and with the arrival of the Elysians, will remain slowly cooking for some time!

I've also started a new blog for my Elysians; Prepare to Drop! you can visit that blog and follow the creation of a new Elysian Regiment here:    http://elysiandroptroopers.blogspot.com/

More Warriors and painted Doom of Malan'Tai

One morning of frantic painting managed to produce 3 more painted Warriors and the much anticipated Doom of Malan'Tai! Again, the 'less is more' approach seems to have paid off, not just in regard to painting speed but also in the quality of the finished result.

Having got these guys painted, my army now stands at 1595pts. Just enough for a sensible game on the tabletop.

Having played 2 games with my exsisting force, i have decided to scale down the stupidly large amount of Termagants (30) and Homogaunts (50) and opt for some more effective units. Although intimidating, these large units barely managed to survive a round of combat before being wipped out (mostly due to being Fearless). I can console myself to a degree, as they were up against the axe-weilding mainiacs that are the World Eaters! However, not even they could withstand and assault from a unit if infiltrating 'Stealers led by a Broodlord! This unit definately out-performed the rest of the army, which has led to afore mentioned Gaunt cutbacks! The new list will include a mere 20 of each Gaunt variant, with 2 units of Stealers - one with 7 plus a Broodlord, and one with 6 plus a Broodlord. More on their performance in the near future.

Another unit thats was VERY fun to play with was the Doom! Putting it in a Mycetic Spore and dropping it in the moddile of the enemy infantry and sucking out their souls is definately worth the 130pts! The 3+ invunerable save got it out of a few jams in the process, so they'll definately be a place for it in this army!

That being said, the Elysians are also soon to land! My copy of the new Imperial Armour 8 is on order, and as soon as it lands, lists will be made and miniatures bought (once i've mugged enough grannes to pay for them!) Watch the skies.....

Hive Tyrant, Doom of Malan'Tai, and 'Stealers!

Another long stretch of post-less time, but i've managed to get a bit done!

With the Hive Tyrant now painted i have an essential HQ choice for my force. I didnt really attack the Tyrant with a set plan, i just started an let it take shape. The end result was a very simple scheme that fitted in with the rest of the army. I did wonder wether if it was TOO simple, but i think im happy with it. I have to say, its a pretty striking model!

I also managed to complete a brood of Genestealers and a Broodlead to lead them. Again, im happy with the simple scheme, and its my favorite unit so far. The Broodlord has to be one of my favorite models, and the colour scheme fits it well. The elevated base also gives it a much more striking pose i feel.

Finally i have done a Doom of Malan'Tai conversion. Well, i basically tweaked a Zonethrope so im not sure if it really qualifies as a conversion!! The carapace on the head you'll recognise from the Mawloc. This was the most time consuming part of the process, as the origional head had to be completely filed down smooth in order for the new carapace to fit!! The tail of the Zonethrope was reversed to face forwards; a process which damaged the tail quite badly! Nothing a bit of green stuff coudnt fix though!!

With 3 warriors, 12 Homagaunts, and the Doom of Malan'Tai, i'll have quite a bit of painting to get on with! Hopefully more pics soon dedicated followers!!

Elysian Drop Troops

With the impending release of Imperial Armour Volume 8, which should contain a new army list for Elysians, i've decided to start collecting! The idea of a completly airbourne force of veterans in Vendetta Gunships supported by Vultures was to tempting to pass up!

Watch this space, more Guard, more Glory!!
